On the surface this song is the 2nd installment in the Kracken Kronicles, a concept album I've been working on. In the first track "A Disturbance in the Deep", a kracken and it's family were caught in the midst of a submarine battle deep in the ocean during WWIII. In "The Guardian of Oceans" the Kracken patriarch takes action in an effort to protect his family and unleashes an onslaught upon the submarines and ships.

Originally I had planned on this song being super intense and technical throughout. But that changed as different events took place in my life that influenced the sound of the song, making it more emotional and dynamic. I actually ended up using this song as therapy to deal with my dog dying as well as family which has been extremely stressful and troubling. I basically poured all my feelings into it every night as a way to deal with things and I think it influenced how it turned out.
